What a change for me....

I was on a holiday last October and met up with a very good friend and ex co-worker for lunch. Not only has she been supportive of my art but she is also a collector of mine having purchased a painting a few years ago. We hadn't seen each other in a while and as we were having a lovely conversation she leaned forward and asked "What are your plans for your art? What are your goals?"

I looked at her and quite frankly didn't have an answer. For the first time. When we worked together I was always doing department budgets and business plans for the various teams I managed and since I've been focusing on my art I continued that tradition. But for some reason this time I had no plan. What was I going to do. Everything seemed basic and quite frankly boring.

Extend my social media reach - increase my followers. Hmm or is that ho-hum.

Paint more paintings. Thats a given.  I've always struggled with being prolific.

So for the first time in years I didn't do a plan. I tried, but it was half hearted and weak at best.  I would have fired myself if I turned in that annual business plan.   What to do, what to do.

I actually took two months off from painting and just thought about art. Went to galleries and absorbed art in the most fundamental of ways, no matter the form. Appreciated life, and more importantly appreciated my life and my family and friends.

Originally I had thought that I would try to be in most of the art walks and really pursue my art by getting out into the community and meet the collectors and fellow artists. And with all best laid plans I had an epiphany.  I was driving in on the Saturday to begin the second day of the busy show NOA Spring Art Walk March 15-17 I realized I didn't need more shows I needed to focus on painting.

And with doing more painting that would mean that I could not do all the art walks that I had thought about.

Remember me mentioning that I am not very prolific - well to compound that issue is that a good majority of my paintings have sold.  Which is a great problem to have and I appreciate every person who has taken my artwork into their life, but it does mean I am always a bit behind the eight ball.  If I continued with attending all the art walks I would be constantly chasing my tail - art for the artwalks and I really want to do things that I had been putting on the back burner.  So here goes.

I will be doing a series of rather large paintings and hope to have them shown in a gallery sometime in 2026.

I will also be working on my inventory - in between the large series paintings.

I will be doing some portraits that I have also wanted to do - and you know who you are.

So this summer (and year) will be art.  And of course golf and I look forward to posting my works online so that you can see.

So as in painting, never force something.  Your instincts will guide you along so trust them and just like me it may take a bit to figure it out.

Hi Tracy,
Love your newsletter! Going big eh! I think goals are motivating when you write them down and shout them out to the universe. You now have a contract with yourself with so many witnesses.
I’m not quite there yet but took a big step and am showing a few pieces in Spring show.
I’m a fan of yours and so I’m excited to see your creative work coming soon.
See you at the Spring show!
Jill
