About the Artist

I have always been an artist and yes I was one of those children who constantly drew and was known in the school for handling all the artistic projects.  Although I began my career as a Graphic Designer and Illustrator I ended up in operations management after a few years.  It has only been in the past decade that I have rediscovered my original roots.

My paintings are representational but have a slight abstraction to them and a curator once referred to them as Abstract Impressionism.  I enjoy the use of colour and I must admit that I will use it for a sense of drama.  One of my favourite quotes is by Roland Wakelin "A painter 'in the modern sense' is one whose 'chief medium of expression is colour'.   

My aim is to not be literal and I will take artistic license with shapes and colours so that when you view the painting from a distance your imagination fills in those gaps.  Imagine being somewhere and totally amazed that you take a photo to remember the moment.  But when you check it out later it doesn't have the same grandeur and impact.  With my paintings I strive to recreate that moment that caused you awe and wonder. I've been published numerous times including once in International Artist magazine and was honoured to do a commission for the then Premier of Alberta Rachel Notley.

Recently I have found an exciting and exasperating love of Plein Air which is a whole new experience.
